Target background:
Mouse Monocyte chemotactic protein-1 (MCP-1) also known as Chemokine C-C motif ligand 2 (CCL2) is a ~14 kDa protein of 125 amino acids (aa) after cleavage of a 23 aa signal peptide. MCP-1 is a small cytokine which belongs to the CC chemokine family. MCP-1 (CCL2) was initially purified based on its ability to chemoattract monocytes. It became evident after it was cloned and sequenced that this protein is also identical to the product of the human JE gene. The JE gene, originally identified in mouse fibroblasts, is a platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF)-inducible gene. MCP-1 (CCL2) induces recruitment of monocytes, T lymphocytes, eosinophils, and basophils and is responsible for many inflammatory reactions to disease, and has been linked to recruitment of osteoclast precursors.
